Bath mats used to be all alike except for the
color. To find one, you just went to the local
discount store and picked out a rubbery thing with
suction cups on the bottom. If you were lucky, you’d
find one about the same color as your shower
curtain. Bath mats were functional, but not much to
look at, especially when the disgusting green stuff
started growing on the little suction cups.
Today's bath mats are varied and colorful, and they
serve a variety of functions in addition to
preventing slips in the tub or shower. They come in
a wide range of colors and shapes, and although many
still have the little suction cups on the bottom,
now you can choose antibacterial bath mats resistant
to mildew, cracking, and staining.
You can choose small or full-length air-cushioned
bath mats that cover virtually the entire surface of
the bathtub. If you like to take long, luxurious
baths, they are far more comfortable than a thin
strip of rubber. Your new bath mat will also stick
to the tub much better than the older ones because
of new technology in materials and design.
You can select a new bath mat to match your other
bathroom accessories, such as your shower curtain
and towels, or buy one made of clear vinyl that will
go with any décor. You can also buy a mat just for
the shower, which will increase safety for children
and mature adults. Another positive feature is that
many of the newer bath mats are machine washable.
